Biggles winning the Gold Edition
It took only a few minutes by stewards for trainer Desleigh Forster to come down from another high after Easy Running lost the Listed Gold Edition Plate on protest to Biggles at Eagle Farm on Saturday. Forster landed her biggest race of her career when Adebisi won the G3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on December 10. Forster's high looked like continuing when Easy Running was first past the post, a clear one length in front over Gold Coast three-year-old Biggles. However, Forster's joy was short lived when Biggles' rider, apprentice Timothy Bell, lodged a protest alleging Easy Running shifted in two horses at the 150 metres mark. "I had established clear running and was into a run when Damian Browne on Easy Running shifted in two horses," Bell said. "I had to check and it cost me between two and two and a half lengths. "I'm adamant the interference cost me the race." Stewards deliberated for only a few minutes before upholding the protest. Biggles' trainer Noel Doyle will give the son of Jet Spur one more start in the G3 Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) at Doomben on December 31 before setting sail for the $1m Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast on January 14. "I was always confident he'd get the protest decision. It was an enormous run," Doyle said. "I'll probably give him one more start in the Vo Rogue then go on to the Magic Millions. "I think there's a real big race in this horse." Biggles was a $160,000 buy at the Magic Millions sales and has now win four of his eight starts and earned almost $214,000 in prizemoney. Meanwhile Forster is looking forward to a return clash between Easy Running and Biggles in the Vo Rogue Plate. "He's a nice horse but he had to cover extra ground today," Forster said. "But once he got to the outside I said to his owners he'd win. "The decision didn't go our way in the stewards' room but we'll get our chance next time."
