GOLD Coast trainer Noel Doyle gave the locals plenty to cheer about after outsider Celtic Dancer caused a boilover in today's Prime Minister's Cup.

The tough four-year-old held off a gallant Mid Summer Music to win by a head and gave Doyle his second Prime Minister's Cup victory.

The performance capped off a great training performance by Doyle after last year's Gold Coast Turf Club Horse Of The Year struggled to make an impact last summer.

But Doyle never lost faith in the son of Choisir and reaped the ultimate reward today.

"He is a tough little fella," Doyle said.

"Last prep he was a little bit off and he just wasn't himself, so we decided to give him a spell.

"This time in he has improved all the time and it's just great to have him back."

Doyle has now set his sights on the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap in June with Celtic Dancer after the gelding took his earnings to almost $380,000 with his sixth career win.

"He is nominated for the Stradbroke and we just have to hope he gets in," Doyle said.

"The 1400m at Eagle Farm will suit him and if we get a wet track it will be even better."

It was a timely win for jockey Tim Bell, who was sacked by Patinack Farm earlier in the week.

The gifted apprentice said he was ready to move on from this week's controversy and was hell-bent on making a name for himself on his own.

"There has been a fair bit of controversy this week but when you get in trouble the only way to beat it is to ride winners," he said.

"It's great to win a big race like this and it's important to get my name back out there."

Earlier, A daring ride from champion jockey Jim Cassidy proved the difference when Sydney filly Scorpio Queen narrowly claimed the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet.

The majority of winners on the day had stormed down the outside of the track, leaving punters to believe the fence was a no-go zone.

But Cassidy took little notice of that as he switched back to the inside in the straight in a brave move.

The decision proved fruitful after the daughter of Choisir saved ground and held off a gallant Secret Garden by a head.

Owner Steve Kirkham said the team would now push on to the Group 3 The Roses (2000m) in a fortnight before a decision is made if she will run in the Oaks.

"We thought she would be a run short today and we had trials cancelled, races abandoned and we didn't think she had the miles in the legs," he said.

"We told Jimmy to cuddle her as much as he could.

"The Doomben Roses is the aim and if she goes further that's a bonus."

Cassidy was confident Scorpio Queen could handle the gruelling acid test of the Group 1 Queensland Oaks.

"She will improve a lot and she will get further now with that run under her belt," he said.

"She didn't handle the track that well and I didn't want to be close to the fence early.

"But I knew it was chopped it up out wide in the straight, so I thought I would go back to the fence and it worked."
